The Underwood Rock & Cattle Co. gallops into
the western music scene with a classic kind of country-rock. Their
new CD, Classic, Hard-Chargin' Country Rock, is a collection
of lively, perceptive songs with traditional country themes about
cars, trains, mom, drinkin’, relationships, and life on a
crowded planet. Make no mistake, pardner, this posse really rocks.
The material was all written by Jackson Underwood, lead singer and
rhythm guitar player. Richard “Blitz” Livoni lays down
the searing slide and lead guitar. A number of musicians accompany
Jackson and Richard on guitars, keyboards, bass and drums.
Jackson has been involved in a number of bluegrass, blues, and country-rock
projects over the years. Based in San Diego, he has toured Western
U.S. and Canada, mostly playing dive bars in small towns scattered
over the western prairies and mountains. His major influences were
Woody Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Chuck Berry (the real king of rock
and roll), Willie Nelson, Willie Dixon, Waylon Jennings, and the
Rolling Stones. Like many rock and country musicians, he has also
earned a living in various jobs in his early days, including as
a fisherman, boat worker, carpenter, ranch hand and archaeologist.
Along the way he also earned a PhD in anthropology from UCLA. These
varied experiences seem to have helped Jackson develop an authenticity,
depth, and humor in his songs.
Richard began playing guitar at the age of 8, and continued through
college, eventually opening for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Hoyt
Axton, Tim Buckley, Jackson Browne, Linda Rondstadt and others.
Richard "Blitz" ripped up the stages for years as the
founder of The Blitz Brothers, and gained a reputation as one of
Southern California's premiere guitar players. He has shared the
stage with Jeff Beck, Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Robin Trower, Judas
Priest, Johnny Winter, Elvin Bishop, and Paul Butterfield, just
to name a few. In addition to playing stadium gigs and major Southern
California nightclubs, he has toured the West Coast, Southwest,
and Texas. Richard plays guitar, bass, drums, and sings. He engineered
and mastered the Underwood Rock & Cattle Co. CD and co-produced
the release with Jackson. Richard owns and operates the well-known
Blitz Recording Studio in San Diego, where Jackson and Richard recorded
the Classic, Hard-Chargin' Country Rock CD.
